Frosty Chocolate Ad Space

It occurred to me today that, after deciding that the kids had been pretty good at the grocery store, I had better reward this behavior because it doesn’t happen often. Without even thinking, I said “Let’s all have frosty chocolate milkshakes!” Coincidentally (maybe not), I was not more than a few feet from a Wendy’s and pulled in. While waiting in the drive-thru, I started to consider Homer Simpson’s classic line.

Was Fox really the top dog of product placement 20 years ago, popping Frosty® chocolate milkshakes into conversation like the slickest ad exec? Or was this just a generalization, l like calling all hook and loop tape “Velcro?”

Not even if you’ve been a vegetarian for 17 years, apparently.

I was making dinner tonight, and while I am usually one to microwave everything and call it a night, both of my children came home from church, did chores and fell asleep; I figured I could use the quiet time to prepare a proper meal. Tonight would be burgers. The veggie variety for me and the meat-type for the kids. We can discuss the horrors of a vegetarian mother who allows her children to eat meat another day. If you hung out with me in #vegan on mIRC in 1997, you know how I felt before I had kids. Let me just say this: I didn’t have kids then.

Clean Your Kitchen!

I admit it. I hate to clean my kitchen. If you have been in my house, EVER, you can attest to this fact. Even at it’s cleanest, my kitchen looks slightly askew. Even today, after I spent 2 hours apron-clad, vacuuming, doing dishes and even cleaning up spilled milk – without crying, mind you!

So why do I refuse to do the dishes until both sides of the stainless steel sink are filled? Why does the linoleum floor need to sound like you’re walking down a gravel road before I sweep?

The Attack Continues

The attack seems to have increased in intensity.

I haven’t been having bad dreams, just weird ones. I usually don’t remember dreams at all.

My first dream had something to do with putting on a show at all costs, a dimensional shift, and fighting an evil wizard to get home. That’s about all I can say about it, the details are fuzzy, but the day that it happened, it was all I could think about.

The next night is even more fuzzy, but had something to do with having dinner with people from church and ended with me running off in the sunset with someone else’s husband. Not out of the question for the old Missi, definitely weird for the new Missi.

A Roaring Lion

The enemy has been working on me quite a bit lately.

Peter tells us to “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” in 1 Peter 5:8 NIV.

He has definitely definitely been prowling around here looking for a way to mess up my mojo. And unfortunately for me and a bit embarassing to admit, he has suceeded in a few areas of my life.

Innocent Faith

We have not only started homeschooling but we added a bit of a schedule to our rowdy unorganized days. If you hadn’t noticed my flickr set, check out the Maynard Academy here.
During today’s devotionals, our memory verse was Psalm 118:24. In discussing its meaning, my own thoughts seemed expanding and disorganized but Lukas was able to describe it beautifully.

“Rejoice in God!” he said.

Amen to that, my son.

Packing

We have been moving Life Bridge from the basement location to the new building. After the people who coordinate different ministries at the church met on Saturday and divided the work for the move, I realized that I had volunteered myself for a bigger job than I originally had intended to.

My thought was “Hey, I’ll take the office…how hard could it be to move some paper and some computers?” Pete burst my bubble almost immediately when he talked about some of the heavier items, like the copier, and the bookshelves in the library. I hadn’t even considered the library a part of the office.

Homeschool – Day One

I started homeschooling Lukas today. In terms of pure work produced, we certainly didn’t make the pile of papers (I call it free paper for my printer) that they used to send home from preschool, but I really felt like we made actual progress.

I was sitting with him talking (and showing) him how to hold his pencil and how I hold mine (I’m a double finger’er); but making sure that he knew right now I wasn’t so interested in which fingers he was using or even which hand – whatever felt right – do it. Let’s just write!

Pardon my mania

As you may have noticed, as I so conceitedly believe that someone is reading this blog religiously for three days now, I have changed themes several times. I am not satisfied where I am right now. Unless I have hand coded this in notebook and move over to the computer with actual Photoshop on it (not this Gimp stuff – I’m grateful for it being free, I just hate using it), I won’t stop changing the look here.

I have a problem making decisions.
